Das haben sich die Jungs von "id" sicher anders vorgestellt. Eines der meisterwarteten Spiele überhaupt fand letzte Woche klangheimlich den Wen in die Weiten des Internets. Natürlich rätselt jeder wie diese Version (pünktlich zu Halloween) ins Netz gelangen konnte. Von John Carmack selbst gibt es jetzt ein erstes Statement, das aus den Comments der Seite "Slashdot.org" stammt. Hier der Kommentar von Carmack zur geleakten Version:
No, this was not leaked on purpose.
Yes, we are upset about it, and it will have some impact on how we deal with some companies in the future, but nothing drastic is going to change in terms of what support is going to be available.
Making any judgements from a snapshot intended for a non-interactive demo is ill advised.
Es ist also davon auszugehen, dass die Demo nicht wie anfangs vermutet, von "id" selbst veröffentlicht wurde. Bleiben eigentlich nur noch "ATI" und "Activision", die ebenfalls E3-Alphas besitzen. Auf einer französischen Seite ist jetzt ein Chatlog aufgetaucht, dass angeblich von Xian stammt, der bei "id Software" arbeitet. Hier ein Auszug aus dem Log:

Wenn man dem Log glauben schenken darf (bis jetzt gibt es noch keine offizielle Bestätigung, es klingt aber zumindest glaubhaft) dann macht "id Software" den Grafikkartenhersteller "ATI" dafür verantwortlich. Das würde sich auch mit der Aussage von Carmack decken "and it will have some impact on how we deal with some companies".
Es bleibt in jedem Fall spannend, wie die Konsequenzen von "id Software" aussehen werden. Wir halten Euch natürlich auf dem Laufendem.
